Mormugao Fort, yet to be on the tourist grid.
As you drive up from Vasco city towards the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), you can turn into the main entrance (on your right) of the office of the MPT. A few meters away, from the parking lot, is a section of the Mormugao Fort that is accessible from here, offering one a sweeping views of the Mormugao Harbour and the sea beyond.
The fort is not quite on the tourist map yet and a bit unkempt. The place is quite rugged and requires some amount of physical prowess to walk along unsecured walls and steps. But if you do go along you will be rewarded with delightful and vantage views of the harbour and miles and miles of sea. One can view the landscape of Dona Paula from this side.
As you enter the fort, there is a Cross erected and a small makeshift Chapel. The local fishermen of the area offer mass heresometimes. On the same level going a little further, there is a chamber that still stands if one is willing to go through the wild shrubs grown there. Not much can be seen from the chamber window though it makes for a lovely photo. The steps leading up to another level give you access to the remnants of the fort. If you walk along the fort walls you will get different amazing view-points to gaze at the Arabian sea.
I would not recommend this visit to anyone having physical limitations. But to all regardless, I would recommend a strong insect repellant. You may run into the local crowd of youngsters hanging out there for a drink, so respect their space, as they may feel rather territorial being a local Goan in their own place.
