Dubai, all that glitters is glass.

My dad worked at Dubai and a very well-known song back then in the 1980s that I liked very much called ‘Back in Dubai’ made this trip almost nostalgic. Going to Dubai was very special, as besides Singapore, it was the other place I always wanted to see.

Everything in Dubai glitters with all the glass facades of the buildings. I don’t think anyone will see so much glass in any other place to beat this city. you will see world class malls, infrastructure and a totally different lifestyle. While shopping seems to be the main occupation and preoccupation there, quite contrary to what one make think, Dubai is a good destination for children. And it is totally safe going around with the children even during late hours of the night using public transport.

One place to spend a lovely evening was no doubt the waterside promenade at the Dubai Marina. It was the first time we saw what an actual marina looked like, with yachts lined up and tall lit up skyscrapers. The ambience was great to spend a relaxing evening there. Staying in the  Bur Dubai area, going to the Children’s City at the Creek Park was a given. The pony ride, Dolphinarium and Bird show renewed the children’s interest much more than the glittering sky scrapers. The Dubai Mall wins hands down for the aquarium, Kidszania of course the Candy store for the kids. You can go to all the most remote corners of Dubai and still see the Burj Khalifa literally shooting into the sky. It is a modern world wonder indeed. If there was one place I would love to see again, it is Dubai.
