Bamambudo waterfall at Canacona
Within the Cotigao Wildlife sanctuary, lies the Ambe Ghat and the Bamanbudo waterfalls. Just the drive and passing scenery is enough to rejuvenate your senses. If one visits during the monsoons, which is also recommended, the terraces of the fields on the approach road to Gaon dongrem village is refreshing with its verdant fields and really crisp fresh air.
On the Canacona-Neturlim road, the waterfall lies around 15 minutes drive once you enter the Bhatpal’s forest gate. The Bamanbudo waterfall is totally accessible, flowing along the road and is very popular among the local Goan crowd from nearby villages. Since it does not require any trekking, it is a waterfall that can be enjoyed across ages and physical abilities.
The waterfall breaks at two levels, as it gushes down in the monsoons which is the best time to see it. During non-monsoon months, it appears to be a spring. At the base, the water accumulates in a small pond, where one can take a dip. It is quite clean, shallow and safe.
If standing by the road to enjoy, be cautious while photographing as the road is fairly busy. The only parking available is at the side of the road. Remember it is within a wildlife sanctuary, so there are no dwellings or shops around and can be quite lonely and isolated in the dark. So don’t plan a whole day picnic here, better to leave the place after an hour or so, litter free and definitely before sun down.
