Treks and peacock farm at Sattari

sattari

If you are a nature lover, then Sattari is the place to be. Still very rustic by even the local Goan standard, Sattari can be a de-stressor for anyone wishing to be cut off from the bustle of modern living. There are no touristic attractions or facilities as such yet but the place is extremely famous for treks.

It is advisable however, to take a guide, a local for the treks, as the dense forest areas do have several wildlife sightings coming into even the inhabited villages that dot the taluka. Most treks here do culminate in waterfalls deep in the green covers.

Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic and the aftermath of the second wave that left Goa devastated, partly because of the hordes of tourists that descended on the state, locals are wary of visitors to the waterfalls. And in many villages, the path to these treks and waterfalls have been blocked by the locals. Please respect the sentiments of the locals and do not venture in the direction if you should find the way blocked.

There is a lack of hotels for overnight stays even for trekking purposes. The Peacock Farm, is named after the sightings of peacocks there, is one of the rustic stays that have come up recently. At the fork much before entering Valpoi town, go towards the Shantadurga Temple. A few meters away, one has to take a dirt but motorable road to reach there.

This simple eco-stay is quite cut off and consists of basic but comfortable facilities. Within the high walls, is a dormitory system for large groups as well as cottages for private groups and families. Two swimming pools, a rain dance floor and a kitchen that caters to your meals round up the place. The place is interspersed with a plenty of well landscaped foliage that adds to its charm.
